We are honored to announce that we are the recipient of the 2025 Deborah Buck “Stepping Up To The Plate Award.” This annual award recognizes institutions and women artists’ collectives across the U.S. that advance and support gender equality in the arts.
On This Spot is incredibly grateful for this recognition.

In the summer of 2025, On This Spot partnered with Leroy Street Architectural Studio to present Season Three: Lower East Side Artists. The window exhibition highlighted pioneering women who shaped the neighborhood’s cultural and artistic identity. The pop up exhibition brought these stories directly into the community.

Artists Alice Aycock, Jane Dickson, and Co-Founder and Executive Director of On This Spot Loretta Howard joined Rail Editor-at-Large William Corwin for a conversation on the New Social Enviroment.

The Historic Districts Council and On This Spot present a virtual tour of the Lower East Side, exploring the rich cultural and artistic history of this storied neighborhood.

On This Spot videos featured in a series of the SoHo Memory Project newsletters. Dedicated to celebrating the history of SoHo as a New York City neighborhood, this collaboration helps preserve its past and connect present generations a rich cultural legacy.

Village Preservation hosted a webinar with historian William Roka and curator Loretta Howard discussing On This Spot. The evening included screening of a number of videos including The Guerilla Girls and Joan Mitchell. The conversation introduced the project’s broader aims while highlighting how New York itself serves as the leading character across all the videos.

Lesley Dill, Bentley Brown, Eilzabeth Smith and Loretta Howard participated in a panel discussion hosted by Melissa Rachleff Burtt at NYU’s Einstein Auditorium.

We are thrilled to be among a recipient of The NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre (“Women’s Fund”), administered by NYFA in partnership with the City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. The fund addressed the underrepresentation of women in the entertainment industry.

Xuezhu Jenny Wang interviews On This Spot Co-Founder Loretta Howard on the project’s alignment with the changing landscape of digital media, as well as her experience as a feminist entrepreneur.

On This Spot launched Season Two: SoHo Artists with a special event at The Drawing Center. The evening featured remarks by Laura Hoptman and Tony Ganz and marked the debut of a new series of videos centered on SoHo’s pioneering women artists.

An afternoon of art and conversation at the home of Board member Lorinda Ash. On April 25, 2024, On This Spot premiered new videos featuring renowned artists Dorothea Rockburne and Laurie Simmons both who were in attendance to share in the celebration and support our project.

On This Spot launched a partnership with Bloomberg Connects, the premier arts and culture app. This collaboration has expanded our reach to audiences worldwide. With closed captions in 16 languages, viewers across the globe can now engage with the stories of groundbreaking women artists.

Village Preservation hosted a Webinar introducing On This Spot to its audience. The mission of re-centering women artists in Greenwich Village’s history was discussed. The Spot videos contribute a sense of place like an “Outdoor Museum” that brings the intangible heritage to life.

On This Spot celebrated a successful launch event in May 2023 at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, drawing a full house of supporters, scholars, and art enthusiasts. The evening marked an important milestone, introducing our mission to share the stories of pioneering women artists with a wider public.
